Chemistry -Important Basics

A- Matter

1-Anything that exhibits inertia is called matter.

2- The quantity of matter is its mass.

B- Mixture-

1-It is formed by physical combination of two or more pure substances in any ratio.

2-Homogeneous mixtures are those whose composition for each part remains constant.

Examples are Aqueous and gaseous solution.

3- Heterogeneous mixtures are those whose composition may vary for each and every part.

Examples are Soil and concrete mixtures.

C-Elements:

1- It is the simplest form of the matter.

2-Atom is the smallest unit of an element .

3- Total number of the known elements is 118. 98 elements occur naturally and 20 are formed by artificial transmutation.

Examples are Al, Si, Na, K, Mg , P, C, F, Br etc.

D-Compound

   1- It is a non-elemental pure compound.

2-It is formed by chemical combination of two or more atoms of different elements in a fixed ratio.

    Examples are H2O, CO2, C6H12O6 etc.
