FIFA selects Saudi Arabia for the 2034 World Cup, boosting the kingdom’s presence on the global sports stage.
FIFA has officially announced Saudi Arabia as the host for the 2034 World Cup, solidifying the country’s growing prominence in international sports. The confirmation marks another milestone in the Gulf nation’s strategic push to become a global sports hub, despite ongoing concerns about its human rights record.
In a highly anticipated decision, FIFA confirmed Saudi Arabia as the sole bidder and selected host for the 2034 World Cup. The Gulf kingdom’s hosting rights come amid significant investments in sports infrastructure, aimed at elevating its international reputation.
FIFA’s virtual Congress also approved the joint bid of Morocco, Spain, and Portugal to host the 2030 World Cup. Interestingly, the 2030 edition will feature an unprecedented twist—three opening matches will take place in South America, commemorating the centenary of the inaugural World Cup in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay.
With FIFA’s confirmation, Saudi Arabia is set to host its first-ever World Cup in 2034, a move that underscores the kingdom’s ambition to become a major player in world sports.
