1-The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is responsible for the planning, execution and management of space research activities and space application programmes.

2- The Indian space programme was launched in 1962.

3-The Indian Space Research Organisation formed in 1969

4- The space commission and department of space created in 1972.

5- The JSRO has headquarters at Bengaluru.

6- India’s first satellite communication Earth station was set-up at Arvi near Pune.

7- The first Indian Satellite Aryabhatta was launched on 19th April, 1975 from Baikonur (erstwhile USSR).

8-The first Indian Communication Satellite, APPLE was launched on 19th June, 1981 from Kourou in French Guyana (South America). It was the first Indian satellite that was placed in geostationary orbit.

9- ISRO’s expenditure in the last 40 years = Half of NASA’s single year budget.

10-SLV-3 was India’s first indigenous satellite launch vehicle and A.P.J. Abdum Kalam Ji was the director of the project.

22-ISRO has helped other countries in launching their satellites into the desired orbits. To date, it has launched about 35 foreign satellites.

23-Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma of Indian Air Force became the first Indian to fly in space in 1984 as part of a joint program between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Soviet Intercosmos space program. He was awarded “Hero of the Soviet Union” prize by the Soviet Union. He is also the winner of Ashoka Chakra India’s highest peacetime military award

24-SAGA-220 supercomputer created by ISRO in May 2011 was the fastest supercomputer in India at the time of its launch.

25-Mangalayaan traveled 780 Million kms for Rs 450 Crore or approximately Rs. 6 per km. That is less than what most autorickshaws charge in India.
