Gravitational Force

Gravitational Force- It is the force of mutual attraction between any two objects by virtue of their masses.

* It is a universal force.

* All objects on the earth experience the force of gravity due to the earth.

* It is gravity that governs the motion of the moon and artificial satellites around the earth, the motion of the earth and planets around the sun.

* Gravitational Force plays a key role in the large-scale phenomena of the universe, such as formation and evolution of stars, galaxies.

* The gravitational pull of the moon pulls the seas towards it, causing the ocean tides.

* The gravitational force was discovered by Sir Isaac Newton in 1687.

* Objects with more mass have more gravity. Gravity also gets weaker with distance. So, the closer objects are to each other, the stronger their gravitational pull is.

* The sun’s gravity keeps Earth in orbit around it, keeping us at a comfortable distance to enjoy the sun’s light and warmth.

* Gravity is slightly stronger over places with more mass underground than over places with less mass.

* The value of gravitational force is 9.8 m/s2 on Earth. The acceleration of gravity on the surface of the earth at sea level is 9.8 m/s2.

* Astronauts float around in space because there is no gravity in space.
